BEN HOWELLS ACCOUNTANT
BEN HOWELLS ACCOUNTANT
ABOUT
I’m Ben Howells, the founder of Ben Howells Accountancy.
I set up my practice in April 2025 after nearly two decades working in accountancy across South Wales, with one simple aim: to give owner-managed businesses the kind of support I always felt they deserved.
Over the last 19 years I’ve worked in a mix of environments — from respected local firms working closely with builders, cafés and family-run businesses, to larger firms dealing with audits, complex groups and fast-growing companies. Most recently, I was a senior manager leading a team and working directly with business owners, often stepping into a trusted adviser role rather than just “the accountant”.
That range of experience shapes how I work today. I’m just as comfortable helping a local café owner understand their numbers as I am supporting a growing business with management accounts, cashflow, or tax planning. I’ve seen what works well, what breaks under pressure, and what really matters to business owners when the pressure is on.

What I enjoy most about this job is the relationship side of it. Real value doesn’t come from filing forms — it comes from understanding how a business actually runs. That usually starts with conversations. Sometimes those conversations uncover small things that make a big difference: I’ve seen simple invoice or VAT errors turn into five-figure cashflow problems, and fixing those can completely change how a business feels day-to-day.
I also care a lot about how things are done behind the scenes. Where it makes sense, I use modern cloud software to automate admin and keep things running smoothly — but I’m just as focused on keeping costs sensible. The right system is the one that fits the business, not the one with the biggest price tag.
My client base reflects that flexible, practical approach. I work with a real mix of people: cafés and coffee shops, builders and property developers, farmers, IT and training consultants, personal trainers — even the odd YouTuber. What they all have in common is that they want an accountant who’s approachable, responsive and genuinely on their side.
As the practice grows, I’m building a small team so I can keep that level of service while taking on new clients. The goal isn’t to become a faceless firm — it’s to become a trusted local practice that business owners know they can rely on.
